Chidi Lloyd, Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area in Rivers State, discovers illegal refineries in Elele-Alimini
The chairman of Emohua local government area, Dr Chidi Lloyd, has busted a very large site with multiple illegal petroleum refineries in Elele-Alimini town as the Rivers State government intensifies efforts to end the state’s soot pandemic. The council chairman also arrested some of the perpetrators of illegal oil bunkering who were apprehended during the operation.
Dissatisfied with the level of environmental degradation caused by illegal oil bunkering activities on such a large expanse of land, the council chairman ordered an immediate investigation and prosecution of the arrested suspects in order to determine ownership of the oil bunkering sites.
The chairman of the council and his team also arrested two drivers who were caught transporting illegally refined petroleum products at the Rumuekpe junction on the East-West road.
Acting on a tip about criminal activity along the old Ahoada road in Elele-Alimini, Dr Lloyd stormed the Elele-Alimini general hospital on Wednesday, accompanied by a combined team of security personnel and the local government taskforce, and discovered a depot operated by illegal petroleum refiners inside the general hospital.
The council chairman also intercepted an illegal mortuary inside Elele-Alimini general hospital, where kidnap victims who died in the custody of their abductors are usually deposited.
Dr. Lloyd questioned why Elele-leadership Alimini’s permitted such heinous business in the community, emphasizing that such evil activity cannot take place without the participation of some community stakeholders.
Concerned about the number of already decaying corpses deposited inside a specific building in the hospital, the council chairman directed that the entire hospital be searched, during which the syndicate and illegal occupant of the hospital were apprehended in their hideout.
