Just after the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority’s (NCAA) approval for the Anambra State government to operate Boeing 737-700 aircraft and its equivalent at Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri, Governor Willie Obiano paid a visit to the facility to ensure that everything is running smoothly.
The Governor inspected some of the facilities that were being installed, including escalators and conveyors, among other things, in preparation for future upgrades.
Speaking to the press shortly after, Governor Obiano, who expressed gratitude to Ndi Anambra and others who have been flying through the airport since its inception, explained that the upgrade entails larger aircrafts that can carry between 300 and 350 passengers at a time.
The Governor stated that the airport’s fire category has been upgraded from category five to category six, and that when the fire trucks from Germany arrive, it will be upgraded to category nine.
While describing it as a first-class facility and the best in Africa due to its good finishing, beauty, and facilities, the Governor, who stated that aviation fuel is now being sold in the airport, urged ndi Anambra to continue patronizing the facility, stating that the lighting arrangement at the tarmac will be completed and launched soon.
He emphasized that it is the best because the DVR and ILS have been activated to guide planes, and that the code for the satellite landing system will arrive soon, after which they will begin the calibration, making Anambra Airport the only airport in Nigeria that has those equipments.
Remember that on the 24th of January, 2022, the Airport regulator informed the Governor about the latest upgrade based on a satisfactory inspection performed by aerodrome safety inspectors to determine the airport’s readiness for the upgrade in fire cover from category five to category six.
