BREAKING: Students Abducted by Gunmen on East-West Road in Delta State

In a distressing turn of events, a group of gunmen have kidnapped an unspecified number of students along the East-West road in Ughelli, Delta State. The abduction occurred on Friday night as the students were reportedly returning to their homes from school in Calabar, Cross River State. The driver of the vehicle, from which the students were taken, managed to escape without injuries.

The Delta State Police Command, through its spokesperson Edafe Bright, confirmed the incident, stating that the students were traveling in a minibus when they were forcibly taken by the kidnappers. As of now, no ransom demand has been made by the abductors. The police have initiated a comprehensive search operation to locate and rescue the abducted students.

“The Command is fully engaged in this matter and is employing all necessary resources to ensure the safe return of the victims,” Edafe Bright conveyed through a statement on social media.

This latest incident adds to the growing concern over the safety of students in the region, following a recent kidnapping at the University of Calabar (UNICAL) in Cross River. The victims in that case included Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level Medicine and Surgery student; Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level Genetics and Biotechnology student; and Damilola Dickson, a final-year student of the same department.

Authorities are calling on anyone with information that could lead to the rescue of the students to come forward, as efforts are intensified to ensure their safety and the apprehension of the kidnappers. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police as the search continues.
