Supreme Court of Nigeria Declares Lack of Jurisdiction to Admit PDP’s New Evidence of Forgery in 2023 Presidential Election

Abuja, Nigeria – In a significant turn of events, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, led by Chief Justice Iyang Okoro, has ruled that it lacks jurisdiction to admit the new evidence presented by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) regarding alleged certificate forgery in the just concluded 2023 presidential election.

The decision was announced earlier today following weeks of intense legal proceedings and appeals. The PDP had sought to introduce fresh evidence in the case, alleging forgery of certificates by the ruling party’s candidate in the election.

Justice Iyang Okoro, speaking on behalf of the Supreme Court, emphasized that the court’s jurisdiction is limited to certain matters and that it does not have the authority to accept new evidence at this stage of the electoral dispute. The decision was made in accordance with established legal procedures and precedents.

This development has stirred reactions from both political and legal circles across the country. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed the decision, maintaining that it upholds the integrity of the electoral process and the principle of finality in legal proceedings.

Conversely, the PDP expressed disappointment with the verdict, emphasizing their belief in the importance of presenting new evidence to ensure the accuracy and fairness of the election results.

As the 2023 presidential election dispute continues to unfold, the nation is closely watching for any further legal actions and political developments. This decision by the Supreme Court marks a pivotal moment in the post-election legal battles and leaves room for continued debate about the transparency and fairness of the electoral process in Nigeria.
