Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has taken a significant step by suspending the operations of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) effective August 2, 2023. The decision was officially announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia.
The statement reads in full:
SUSPENSION OF OPERATIONS OF THE ENUGU CAPITAL TERRITORY DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (ECTDA)

The Enugu State Government hereby suspends the operations of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) effective today, August 2, 2023.

This suspension is necessitated by the need to carry out a detailed review of the activities of the Authority, its processes, and the transparency of its operations.

During this period of review, only operations directly authorized by His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State will be treated, to ensure the State attends to the needs of the public that cannot wait for the completion of the exercise.

All third parties and individuals who currently collect any form of Motor Park, Keke Park, or Truck Park fees on behalf of Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority are to submit their relevant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government on or before 9th of August 2023. Failure to comply will result in the suspension of such MOU’s.

The public is assured that this exercise will be concluded as soon as possible, and the recommencement of operations will be duly communicated.

The suspension comes as a result of the State Government’s intention to conduct a comprehensive review of the Authority’s activities, processes, and overall transparency in its operations. During this evaluation period, only operations directly authorized by the Governor will be permitted to ensure the urgent needs of the public are attended to promptly.

The statement further directed all third parties and individuals currently collecting any form of fees on behalf of ECTDA for services like Motor Parks, Keke Parks, and Truck Parks to submit their relevant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government by August 9, 2023. Failure to comply with this directive will lead to the suspension of the MOUs.

The public can rest assured that the review will be conducted efficiently and promptly, and any updates regarding the resumption of ECTDA’s operations will be communicated in due course.
