Obinwannem News Five feared dead, as armed gunmen ambush oil workers in Imo

No fewer than five persons were confirmed dead by the Imo State Police Command on Monday, following an attack by unknown gunmen on oil workers in Assa community in Ohaji/ Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, killing a police officers and four oil workers.

According to report made available to Obinwannem News, apart from those who died, others sustained bullets injuries.

Punch gathered from the president of Congress of Ohaji youths, Emmanuel Ugorji, confirmed the attack, and said he has visited the scene of the incident. He urged the government to take proactive measures as regards to security in the area, adding that gunmen has been terrorizing the area recently.

Meanwhile, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mike Abattam confirmed the incident to newsmen in Owerri.

“Four workers were killed in the attack including a police officer with them. Also, others sustained gunshots injuries”, he said.

However, the police assures that they have began investigation into the killings, though no one has been arrested.
