A press conference held on Tuesday in Enugu featured leaders from Aku community vehemently denying their role in the incident, asserting that the Ikolo people were the aggressors in an ongoing boundary dispute dating back to 1963.

Chief Innocent Diyoke, Chairman of Aku General Assembly, accused Ikolo neighbours of misguiding the public, claiming that Ikolo people were encroaching on land belonging to Lelegu Aku community.

Diyoke also mentioned previous clashes and disputed the allegations that Aku people orchestrated the recent attack, emphasizing their commitment to civility and lawfulness despite enduring years of alleged terror from Ikolo.
