The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have issued November 8, 2023 nationwide strike notice to the Federal Government in response to the recent attacks, abduction, and assault on NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero and others.

During a briefing on Friday, NLC and TUC leaders presented a six-point demand, including the immediate removal of the Imo State Commissioner of Police and Area Commander, along with other officials, who are accused of complicity in the mistreatment of Comrade Ajaero and fellow workers.

It should be recalled that suspected state agents and security personnel targeted Comrade Ajaero and other labour leaders, damaging their vehicles, causing injuries, and robbing them of their belongings, including phones, money, and ATM cards.

This incident occurred as they gathered at the NLC State secretariat to initiate a planned protest regarding outstanding labour issues.

Comrade Ajaero, along with other national NLC leaders and their TUC counterparts, were at its Secretariat at Owerri, Imo state to address concerns such as unpaid salaries, allowances, pensions, gratuities, and non-compliance with the National Minimum Wage Act.

The assault on Ajaero has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation nationwide.

NLC and TUC leaders are scheduled to convene next Tuesday to determine an appropriate response to the attack.
