The profile killings of prominent personalities in the last 72 hours, in the Southeast region, has created anxiety to residents as the corpse of Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI), who was also the Provost of Nigerian Immigration, Okeimute Mrere, was found in a Bush, in Imo state.

According to PUNCH, Mrere was assassinated on Saturday night, on Owerri-Portharcourt road in Imo State.

A Nigerian Immigration Officer, on anonymity, confirmed that the corpse of slain officer was discovered in a bush on Sunday morning. Mrere was said to have been driving a Hilux Van to NIS, when he was allegedly ambushed, and killed.

It was gathered that the assailants did not take the victims service pistol as it was found on him, where his corpse was discovered the next day.

The official Hilux Van, that he was driving, when he was attacked was riddled with bullet holes, our correspondent learnt.

The source said, “The Chief Provost of Nigerian Immigration Service, Imo State Command, Okeimute Mrere, has been assassinated. He was killed on Saturday night. He was ‘riding’ in his official Hilux Van, when he was attacked, shot and killed.

“His corpse was discovered the next day, which was on Sunday morning, nothing was taken from him, not even his service pistol. His vehicle was riddled in bullets holes. The command is quiet, there is panic as officers are dumbfounded by this tragic development.”

Also confirming the incident, the commands Public Relation Officer, Winifred Oguh, said the command was yet to get full details, and was still investigating the incident.

She said, ” Yes, I can confirm to you, that we lost one of our officers, Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI), Okeimute Mrere.

“We are yet to get full details of the incident as investigation are still ongoing.”
