The Super Falcons Secure Commanding Victory, Clinch Spot in Olympic Qualifiers’ 3rd Round

.Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Ethiopia, guaranteeing their position in the 3rd round of the 2024 Women’s Football Olympic Games qualifiers in Paris

This resounding win, resulting in a 5-1 aggregate score, unfolded after a thrilling 1-1 draw in the initial leg of the qualifier in Ethiopia, marked by Rasheedat Ajibade’s stunning long-range goal, a standout performance from Atletico Madrid’s player.

The Falcons took the lead late in the first half when Uchenna Kanu displayed remarkable composure, slotting the ball past the Ethiopian goalkeeper. Ajibade, the Atletico Madrid Femeni forward, extended Nigeria’s lead to 2-0 with another goal from close range, continuing her impressive goal-scoring streak.

Captain Ajibade’s brilliance shone through, setting up a striking goal in the 68th minute as Asisat Oshoala, the forward for Barcelona Femeni, connected superbly with Kanu’s cross, further solidifying Nigeria’s lead. Within just four minutes, Ajibade sealed the victory with her second goal, her earlier assist setting the stage for Oshoala’s straightforward finish past the Ethiopian defense.

This triumph ensures Nigeria’s place in the next qualifying round, where they are set to face the victor of the Uganda vs. Cameroon match, scheduled for February 9–28, 2024.

The Super Falcons’ dominating performance against Ethiopia underlines their exceptional talent and unwavering determination as they forge ahead on the journey to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games for women’s football.
