A lucrative brand opportunity known as the ‘Window on America’ has been officially flagged off by the United States mission in collaboration with the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday.

According to the organizers, it is programmed to provide information about the United States; including its government, history, culture and educational system through the books and electronic resources provided by the United States government.

US consulate public affairs officer, Stephen Ibelli, in his keynote address explained the primary objective for establishing the ‘Window on America,’ which is to promote mutual understanding between the United States and Nigeria.

Purposefully, Ibelli said the Uyo Window on America would function as a hub for activities; enabling young Nigerians to develop ideas, and form a basis to sensitive and empower them through designed workshop and programmers set out to educate them.

“Young people are the strength of this nation. They will find a wealth of opportunities that could only be found at this space. We invite them to take advantage of this free service at this ‘Window on America’ in Uyo as their place of engagement, education and empowerment,” Ibelli said.

Moreover, University of Uyo, Vice chancellor, Prof Nyaudah Ndaeyo, commended the US government for their partnership that led to the establishment of the center in the University. He assured that, Uyo youths would benefit immensely from all the amazing free resources available at the Uyo ‘Window on America’.

She explained for more engagement to gain access to Nigeria audience in their local communities, the US mission would be adding 11 new windows on America to the family of America space in Nigeria.

“They will be sited in major cities across the country including Abeokuta, Awka, Benin city, Enugu, Osogbo, Zaria, Minna, Dutse, Makurdi, Gombe and Lafia.

” A window on America is a type of America space located in over 150 countries worldwide. Window on America host a variety of events designed to bring Americans and Nigerians closer together. Regular talks by US speakers, Embassy staff, full bright scholars and other Americans will allow US and Nigerian citizens to interact and exchange ideas”.

“The window on America will also provide a venue for the Embassy and consulate outreach activities, offering a meeting point for US Government alumni and a host for visiting speakers, film series and other events that promote a better understanding of the US”, the release explains.
