Enugu State Police operatives, in collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, successfully dismantled a child-stealing syndicate, leading to the arrest of a 21-year-old individual, Ifeanyi Omeke.
This incident occurred in Igogoro Village, Enugu-Ezike community, within the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, on October 27, 2023, around 1:30 p.m.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, the arrest followed a daring attempt by the suspect to abduct a one-year, three-month-old girl from a local residence.
The suspect, Omeke admitted his involvement in the crime and disclosed that he had been commissioned by his yet-to-be-apprehended associates for child theft purposes, including ritualistic and other illicit activities.
In response to this development, Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu, has issued an order for the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a comprehensive inquiry aimed at capturing the remaining members of the criminal syndicate and prosecuting them.
