Innocent Chukwuma, head of Ford foundation West Africa and a civil society leader has been reported dead.

Chukwuma passed away on Saturday night, after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid leukemia – an agrressive cancer of the blood – in a Lagos hospital.

His friend, Edetaen Ojo, confirmed his death in a message; saying, “with profound shock and sadness, I regret to inform you that Innocent Chukwuma has passed away, a few hours ago, in the evening of April 3, 2021. May his soul rest in peace”.

Mr Chukwuma established CLEEN foundation in 1998, after playing active roles as a political activist and community organizer against the brutal dictatorship in 1998; with the aim of promoting public safety, security and accessible justice through the strategies of empirical research, legislative advocacy, demonstration programmes and publication in partnership with government, civil society and the private sector.

Chukwuma was survived by activist wife, Josephine, and 3 children.
