Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has reacted over a protest by the Alhaji Yerima Shettima-led Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) to arrest Enyinnaya Abaribe, a serving Senator, who stood as a surety for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
MASSOB in a statement by its leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu, on Tuesday, distinguished (Kanu’s case) Abaribe from that of Senator Ali Ndume and Maina Abdulrasheed, noting the cases are totally different.
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) had earlier kicked against the order by a court to remand Senator Ali Ndume in Corrections Centre over the absence of the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, calls for the arrest of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
Recall that Senator Ndume, the lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, was on Monday sent to prison by a federal high court for his inability to produce Maina, whom he stood as surety for in his corruption and money laundering trial.
Madu stated that, “Maina was being charged over allegations of corruption and looting public funds when he was the chairman of the defunct National Pension Task Team.
“He (Maina) was also accused of laundering money meant for aged pensioners. He can, therefore, never be compared with Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB.
“Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s surety for Nnamdi Kanu was a unanimous decision of Ndigbo; it was not a personal venture.
“The treasonable and felonious court case against Nnamdi Kanu is closed because the Nigerian government knows it has no evidence against him. Therefore, any attempt to arrest Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe will be resisted by Ndigbo.”
MASSOB warned the Northern Youth Group to desist from being willing tools of destruction in the hands of their leaders, adding that the Igbo nation would resist any attempt to arrest Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
“MASSOB will never allow Arewa people to play the hypocritical game of pulling down the best leaders of Ndigbo in the name of politics,” he said.
