Bianca Ojukwu Wins Legal Battle over Late Husband's Assets in Lagos Bianca Ojukwu Wins Legal Battle over Late Husband's Assets in Lagos

A landmark legal battle over the assets of the late Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu has been resolved in Lagos High Court, in favor of his widow, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, and her two children. The court ruling grants them control and management of some of the assets in Ojukwu Transport Limited (OTL), a family company.

The suit, LD/1539/2012, was filed by Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu on behalf of her sons, Afamefuna and Nwachukwu, when they were infants, against OTL and seven others, including brothers of the late Ojukwu, their sons, and a property agent. The dispute arose over the alleged attempts by some defendants to take possession of their residence at No. 29 Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, Lagos, and other properties managed by their late father.

The court, presided over by Justice A. M. Lawal, delivered the judgment on June 24 of this year after a decade-long legal battle. It ruled in favor of the claimants, recognizing them as the biological children of Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, thereby entitling them to his estate, as well as his entitlements as a deceased director and shareholder of OTL.

Justice Lawal emphasized that the claimants have the right to possess and control the assets their late father managed while he was alive, underlining the principles of equity and fairness. The court also declared that the claimants are entitled to possession of the listed properties, and the 2nd-8th defendants are restrained from interfering with their control of these assets.

With the judgment now resolved, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu and her children can move forward, securing their late husband and father’s legacy in the management of the Ojukwu Transport Limited assets. The ruling marks a significant milestone in their efforts to protect their inheritance and uphold their father’s legacy.
