Obinwannem News FC Barca suspends club’s presidential elections

‘Futbol Club’ Barcelona, commonly referred to as Barcelona has postponed its presidential election that was meant to hold on January 24 due to a spike in Covid-19 cases.

La Liga giants Barcelona made the announcement in a statement on Friday.

The club statement read: “Catalan Government and FC Barcelona have held a virtual working meeting to address the holding of the elections for President and Board of Directors of the sports entity in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In the course of the meeting, the government has conveyed to the club that the current epidemic situation does not make it possible to authorize the movement outside the municipality to members who do not have a polling station in their municipality on Jan. 24, given the high mobility this would entail.

Temporary president, Carles Tusquets, will now have to meet with the three presidential candidates Joan Laporta, Victor Font and Toni Freixa to discuss a new date.

The meeting will also decide whether the club Barcelona should move in the ongoing transfer market.
