In a bid to support and strengthen the agricultural sector, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has officially flagged off the 2023 Fertilizer Sales and Distribution Program in Benue State. The governor cautioned against any diversion of government-subsidized fertilizers and emphasized the need for fair distribution to all farmers, regardless of their political affiliations.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Alia reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of the people of Benue State, recognizing the current economic challenges being faced by the nation. He stated that the distribution of subsidized fertilizers is a crucial step towards mitigating these challenges and bolstering agricultural productivity in the state.

“Benue State is blessed with abundant fertile land, and it is our duty to harness this potential for the benefit of our farmers and the entire state. I want to assure all farmers that these fertilizers are meant solely for their use, and any attempt to divert them for personal gain will not be tolerated,” Governor Alia emphasized.

The government has purchased 100 trucks of fertilizer to ensure a steady and sufficient supply to farmers across the state. Governor Alia urged farmers to remain patient, as his administration plans to initiate farming seasons with the flag-off in April each year. Additionally, he pledged to provide improved agricultural machinery and create an enabling environment for farmers to thrive.

Mr. Nats Adzuu, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, lauded Governor Alia’s proactive measures in ensuring the availability of subsidized fertilizers for Benue farmers. He expressed the ministry’s dedication to ensuring food security and a fair distribution of the product to all corners of the state.

In an effort to promote unity and inclusivity, Chairman of the Taskforce Committee on Governor Alia’s 100 days in office, Dr. Moses Tule, revealed that the governor has allocated one truck of fertilizers to every political party in the state. Dr Tule emphasized that the time for political campaigns is over, and it is now crucial for all citizens to reap the benefits of democracy, regardless of their political affiliation.

The distribution process will take place at the Ministry of Agriculture and all Agricultural departments spread across the 23 local government areas in the state. Furthermore, the governor has purchased 50 bags of fertilizers specifically designated for the most vulnerable farmers in the state, to be distributed at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) office.

Governor Alia’s government remains committed to uplifting the agricultural sector and ensuring the prosperity of farmers in Benue State. By providing subsidized fertilizers and necessary support, the administration aims to boost agricultural productivity, improve food security, and foster overall economic growth in the state.
