Manchester United beat nine-man Southampton 9-0 on Tuesday to tie the biggest margin of victory in a Premier League match.

Manchester United, Tuesday night, defeated nine-man Southampton in the premier league game at Old Trafford

Southampton 19-year-old midfielder Alexandre Jankewitz was sent off in 82 seconds of the game, and Jan Bednarek also received a red card for a foul on Anthony Martial in the penalty area, 86th minutes in the game.

The victory makes ‘The Red Devils’ first club to win by a nine-goal margin in the Premier League twice, equaling their record from 26 years ago against Ipswich.

The Red Devils moved level on points with Manchester City, but was behind on goal difference

Similarly, Southampton lost by the same score line at home to Leicester, 15 months ago, recorded the heaviest-ever home defeat.

Manchester United Coach Solskjaer speaking after the match said: “When they had a man sent off it was up to us to get the first goal.

“You have to take your chances in tight or open games – you never know what might be the deciding factor. We know, better than anyone, what goal difference can do to you because we have lost the league on goal difference.

“Confidence is one thing but it was about the mojo and spark – the X-factor.”

” It is horrible,” said the Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl. “But, we stood up after the first 9-0 and we have to do that again.”
