Professor Wole Soyinka, has said that the Labour Party is aware that their 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi lost the bid for the post. The noble laureate alleged that the LP is trying to make the Nigerian youth think otherwise than Obi lost the presidential elections on 25 February 2023.

Wole Soyinka made these allegations while speaking at an African in the world event held in Stellenbosch South Africa.

Soyinka, who was featured in a dialogue diatribe at the event made the revelation while reacting to questions on LP Baba Ahmed Datti on the outcome of the 2023 presidential elections.

Professor Soyinka said he is a keeper of the truth even though the youth believe otherwise. His words were, ” This recent election – two things happened, first of all, one party took over the labour movement and then it became a regional party.

Whereas it was a marvelous breach into the established two camps. Peter Obi achieved something remarkable there, that he broke the mould. However, he did not win the election.

I can say categorically that Peter Obi’s party came third not even second and the leadership knew it, but they want to do what we call in Yoruba ‘gbajue’, that is’ force of lies’.

Soyinka also alleged that the LP leadership attempted to mobilize young people to protest against the outcome of the election on the banner of lies and deceit. He said, ” They were going to send some of the hardliners, proud, young, people into the streets to demonstrate.”
