Enugu Governor Vows to Eradicate Hunger and Poverty, Targets $30 Billion Economy
In an ambitious stride toward progress, Governor Barr. Peter Mbah of Enugu State renews his administration’s dedication to eliminating poverty and hunger during the 2023 World Food Day celebrations in Enugu.
Represented by Professor Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, Governor Mbah solidified his commitment to eradicating hunger and poverty in the state. He laid out comprehensive plans to invigorate the rural economy through investments in agriculture and agro-industrialization.
Emphasizing the aim to bolster the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion, Governor Mbah highlighted the strategy involving significant agricultural investments, investor attraction, support for local farmers, and the stimulation of rural economic growth.
While touring various food exhibits at the event, the Governor commended Enugu farmers for their efforts and assured ongoing support to enhance the state’s economy, stressing the pivotal role of farming in Enugu’s economic development.
The event’s theme, “Water is life, Water is Food, and Leave No One Behind,” was further addressed by Patrick Ubru, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization. He underscored the crucial connection between water and food security, commending Governor Mbah’s initiatives in providing portable water, facilitating year-round farming, and enhancing food production and rural development.
Dignitaries and representatives of farmers’ associations, including Hon. Ejike Eze, the Chief Whip and Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization, joined the celebration, highlighting the collective effort towards a thriving agricultural sector.
