Former United States President Barack Obama grandmother (step) Sarah Obama has passed on in a Kenyan hospital, at the age of 99.
The news was confirmed by his family, that she gave up the ghost on at 4am (local time) a hospital in Kisimu.
Family spokesperson Sheilk Musa Ismail, said she had been sick with normal disease, and tested negative for covid-19.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta offered a condolence statement on Monday.
“The passing away of Mama Sarah is a big blow to our nation, we have lost a strong, virtuous woman. A Matriach who held together the Obama family and was an Icon of family values,” he said.
Sarah had worked to promote education for orphans in Kogelo, “was a loving and celebrated philanthropist who graciously shared the little she had with the less fortunate in her community,” he added.
Sarah Obama was the stepmother of Barrack Obama, Sr, the Former US President.
However, Barack Obama has being informed of the news of her death, and he paid his condolence.
She will be buried on Tuesday before midday and the funeral will be held under Islamic rites.
