Obinwannem News Abiriba Community celebrates 'Igwa Mang' in Aba

The native people of Abiriba community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, residing in Aba, celebrated their ‘Igwa Mang’ ceremony today, December 12, 2020.

The celebration, a practice in the ancient times which was instituted because of the predominant intercommunal wars. It signifies the return of the warriors from long time wars of defending their territories.

The event is done by a distinct age grade, expected to deliver a new development project to the community, since there are no more wars in modern times.

Interestingly, the people of Abiriba, irrespective of where they are domiciled observe this great event.

The event includes displays of the Abriba culture and identities. It also foster peace and unity among the people, as the even helps to bring them together annually.

Today in Aba, men, women, both young and old, including children were all seen dressed on the dignified attire of the Abriba people.
