Obinwannem News Health: Why it is not good to hold urine for so long

Whether consciously or unconsciously, there have been times when we hold back urine.
Doing this often can prove to be detrimental to our health that is why doctors recommend emptying your bladder regularly, about once every three hours.

When you first feel the urge to urinate, your bladder still has a bit of space left before it is filled up completely and when it eventually becomes full the muscles around the bladder are put to work to help keep urine from leaking out until you are ready to release it.

According to research, a healthy bladder can hold as much as 2 cups of urine before it is considered full.

It takes the body about 9 to 10 hours to produce two cups of urine. So an average person can hold urine for about 9-10 hours long without any possibility of damaging his or her bladder.

Anything longer than that might cause health complications and might damage the bladder. health problems that may occur when we hold urine for too long are listed below

1. Urinary incontinence
This is a medical condition where you lose control of your bladder as a result of weak bladder muscles, physical damage to the pelvic floor, enlarged prostate and so on. In some cases, the bladder empties urine on its own completely while in some cases there are just minor leakages. This health condition can be chronic or temporary. According to research, this condition is more common among women although it can affect everybody.

2. Pain
When you constantly hold in urine in the bladder, you might begin to experience pain in your kidney and bladder. It can also result in pain when you finally go to urinate in the form of pelvic cramps. So ensure that you urinate as soon as you feel the urge to do so.

3. Urinary retention
When you hold your urine for too long (more than 9-10 hours), you might begin to experience a medical condition known as urinary retention.
This condition is caused when the muscles around the bladder can’t relax and let you relieve yourself when you want to. This condition can lead to stress and will need the help of medical experts to solve it.

4. Urinary tract infection
Urinary tract infections are caused by microorganisms known as microbes. This microbe can be bacteria in some cases fungi and very rare cases viruses. When you hold on to urine, it can cause these microbes to multiply in your urinary tract leading to infection.

The urinary tract is made up of kidneys, ureters, bladders, and urethra. Some symptoms of UTI include chills, vomiting, nausea.

When you experience any of these challenges it is advised that you go seek medical advice and a check-up. There are certain foods and fruits which are very good and healthy for
