Obinwannem News WAEC can’t determine when schools will reopen - Education Minister

Adamu Adamu the minister of Education has said that schools in Nigeria will not reopen soon due to the COVID-19 threat, stressing that schools will open when it’s safe for students.

Adamu also said that the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) students will not be allowed to take the examination or return to school anytime soon.

This was made known during an Address after the virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in Abuja on Wednesday.

The minister further stated that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has no power to determine the resumption date of schools for Nigeria.

Adamu continued by stating that he would prefer Nigeria students lose an academic year than endangering their lives to the pandemic, urging the various states that have planned resumption of schools to reconsider their stand in order not to endanger innocent students.

This is coming few days after Mr. Emeka Nwajiuba, the minister of state for education, had announced that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will kick off on August 4, through September 5.

However, this latest announcement by Adamu has complicated the earlier report by Emeka Nwajiuba, the minister of state for education.
