Obinwannem News Video: Is this a Police Rescue Operation gone wrong?

While many missing people in Nigeria stay missing or are presumed dead, sometimes they reappear after a few weeks, months or even years.

The shocking video reveals a rescue operation by men who identified as officers from the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS); a unit under the Forces’ Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID).

The squad deals with crimes associated with armed robbery, car snatching, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and crimes associated with firearms.

In the unconfirmed video, the security operatives from Umuahia were said to be responding to a tip-off from the public which led to the discovery of a building where the victims were held in very horrible conditions.

A young woman, barely dressed and blindfolded was discovered alive with two other young men also blindfolded with their hands tied behind their backs, one laid face down in the apartment, evidently the hub of criminal activities.

While many commend the move by the police as a breath of fresh air in a society that has been ravaged by violence and insecurity, some question the conduct of the officers during the operation which signalled a lack of training and incompetence.
