After a thrilling 5-1 victory against Leeds United to start the season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side could only draw 1-1 at St Mary’s against a team they had scored nine goals against at Old Trafford earlier in the year.
The draw at Southampton left Paul Pogba angry, since the Manchester United midfielder believes that winning such games will be crucial in the final Premier League reshuffle
Mason Greenwood equalized after Che Adams’ drive was deflected in by Fred to earn United a draw on a day where both teams had chances to win.
“I think we deserved more, but you have to show more also on the pitch, the France international said.
“After the goal we scored, we dropped a little bit, we lose control of the game a bit and thats why I think we didnt get the second goal.
“I think we dropped a few points today. We get one point, we stay focused.
“Obviously were happy we didnt lose today and we take this point with positivity.
“But we know those game. I think at the end of the season, those games, those three points, will be very important.
“So, today we didnt lose, we got one point and the next game away we know that those points will be very important for us and we dont want to give them away.”
By drawing at St Mary’s, Solskjaer’s side equaled Arsenal’s 17-year-old run, but Pogba has larger goals in mind.
Next United could create history by becoming the first team to go 28 consecutive top-flight away games unbeaten when they visit Molineux on Sunday.
“Its always good but I prefer to win the league and dont have the record,” he told MUTV.
“Its good, its positive. Next time what we want to have a record of winning away — that would be the best and not draw when we know we can win these games.”
Pogba gave a press conference following the 1-1 draw with Southampton.
Summer acquisitions Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho, meanwhile, were selected on the bench.
Following an extended summer break, veteran Edinson Cavani will receive another week of fitness under his belt, strengthening United’s danger heading to Wolves next weekend.
“When we have the full team its always good,” Pogba added.
We know we have a very strong team with excellent individual players that can make the difference at any time.
They’re getting ready and theyre ready to come on, like Jodan today. He came on and show his ability, his quality and he helped the team.
“Edi is coming also. Weve got plenty of players that are ready to get in the team.”
With the kind of fire power Man United pocess, we hope they will have enough tooth and claws to fight off Wolves next weekend.
