The Police in Imo State has warned the public of imminent danger following sightings of hundreds of armed herdsmen said to be planning attacks on some communities in the state.

The state command speaking through it’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikeokwu Godson Orlando, said it was aware of “the news making the rounds on various social media platforms that some Fulani Herdsmen are camping somewhere in Oru, Ahiazu Mbaise, in preparation to attack some communities within the said location”.

Reports have it that some 500 Fulani herdsmen are positioned in the Ikpa Ocha area, Aro Ndizuogu community in Imo state as they prepare to launch attacks in the nearby communities.

Obinwannem gathered from sources that the herdsmen have camped in the community all through the night, armed with machine guns as they prepare to attack villagers in retaliation for 5 of their cows that died after drinking from unknown substances placed in the farms.

“They gathered behind our house throughout the night. Security guys told us they were carrying machine guns”. He claimed that local farmers, whose crops were being eaten by the herdsmen’s cows, had mixed some unknown chemicals in buckets of water and kept these around their farms. The cows then drank the poisoned water and about five were said to have died.” the source said

Similar sightings of armed herdsmen activities have been reported in Ihitte, Orumba South LGA, Anambra State. The herdsmen are said to have camped outside Umunze also in Orumba, as they prepare to launch attacks in the nearby communities.
