The Management of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, on Wednesday, unveiled streets named after 12 prominent Nigerians.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, while unveiling the beneficiaries, said the gesture was to appreciate their valuable contributions to the development of the education sector and humanity in general.

He also said that the beneficiaries would provoke a sense of history in the staff and students of the University, adding that more roads would be named after the host communities.

“We appreciate all their valuable contributions and shall continue to harvest the noble ideals they left on the sands of our time,” the Vice Chancellor said.

The roads include Prince Arthur Eze Road; Chief Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo Boulevard; Prof. Cyprain Onyeji Road; Igwe John Nwodo Drive; Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani Avenue; and Barr. Sullivan Chime Crescent.

Others include Chief Senator Ken Nnamani Avenue; Charles Umeha Daddy Onyeama Avenue; Chief C.C Onoh Drive; Chief Chilo Offia Crescent; Bishop Michael U. Eneje Road; and Senator Ike Ekweremadu Road.

Senator Ken Nnamani while speaking after unveiling Chief Senator Ken Nnamani Avenue, appreciated the ESUT Management for honouring him, stating that he would continue to make contributions for the promotion of scholarship and infrastructure in the University.

The Senator who was represented by the Ambassador of Nigeria to Poland, Major General Christian Ugwu, also said ” I thank the ESUT Management for deeming it fit to honour prominent Nigerians who have made positive contributions to humanity, especially His Excellency, Senator Ken Nnamani.

“He has been promoting scholarship in this University. I thank the Vice Chancellor and the entire Management team for even muting the idea. This gesture would spur the beneficiaries, especially, Senator Ken Nnamani to do more things for human capital development,” he said.

Also, a former Vice Chancellor of ESUT, Prof. Cyprian Onyeji, who was equally honoured, appreciated the ESUT Management for the gesture, assuring that resources would be made available for the maintenance of the facility.

“I know that there are dozens of qualified candidates, not just in Enugu State but in Nigeria at large who may also be qualified but you find my little self worthy to have this Road, I appreciate it,” he said.

The Director of ESUT Consultancy Services, Prof. Okey Orji, who also spoke on behalf of the late Chief C.C Onoh, said that he was relieved that the late Onoh, who was an unsung hero given his contributions to the development of Enugu State was remembered by ESUT.

The Chairman, of the Committee on Street Naming of ESUT Roads, Prof. Francis Iloeje, while presenting the report of his Committee to ESUT Management, said that members of the Committee were thorough and without bias in their selection of the beneficiaries.

Members of the Committee include Prof. Francis Iloeje (Chairman); Prof. Emeka Nnamani; Prof. Jude Udenta; Prof. Frank Asogwa; and Prof. Chinwuba Owo.

Others are Prof. Ifeoma Okwo; Prof. Osita Ogbu; Arc. Prof. Augusta Emenike; Prof. Ike Oluka; Engr. Ezekwesili Onah; Paul Agu; and Dr Mary Iyida (Secretary.)
