On Sunday, April 14th 2024, at The St Dominic Catholic Church, Fegge Onitsha, the title of Dikediebube Onitsha South was conferred on Hon Emeka Orji, The Chairman of Onitsha South LGA.

The Parish Priest, Rev Fr Evaritus Ugochukwu Nwagbara (Onowu) and the parish council recognized and appreciated Hon Emeka Orji, for his splendid performance as Onitsha South Local government Chairman. The ceremony began with a high Mass officiated by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Everistus Ugochukwu Nwagbara.

In his homily, the Parish Priest of St Dominic’s Catholic Church Fegge Onitsha, Rev Fr Evaritus Ugochukwu Nwagbara noted the significance of Mothering Sunday and the importance of mothers in our society and also, the need to celebrate them. The priest emphasized that this year’s celebration of our mothers in the parish is very special because, it also coincided with the conferment of a chieftaincy title of “Dikediebube” to a worthy and outstanding son of Onitsha South LGA, who is also our local government chairman.

He pointed out that women are full of blessings, energy, substance, caring and love for our families and society in general. He prayed to God to keep our mothers and every woman on earth, by blessing and protecting them with good health and every blessing of womanhood.

In conferring the title, the organizing committee chairman of the ceremony, Hon Francis Nwoye who took his time to list some of the achievements of the Chairman of Onitsha South LGA, noted that no one deserves the title of “Dikediebube Onitsha South” of St Dominic’s Catholic Parish more than Hon Emeka Orji, whose splendid works as the Chairman of our dear local government is visible and speaking for itself.

When called upon to usher in the chairman, Hon Emeka Orji, for the title conferment, Hon Ndubuisi Okereke explained that the Chairman is a thorough home breed in the Local Government and has been active for everything good and the betterment of Onitsha South LGA, even before assuming office as our council boss.

Hon Okereke went down memory lane, about the times, life and activities of Hon Emeka Orji before assuming office as The Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area. He noted that the Chairman has done wonderfully well by identifying those areas which have been problematic to the residents of the council area, including flooding, which the Chairman had tackled headlong upon assumption of office.

He said that the chairman has delighted almost all the drainage systems across the LGA for ease of flow of water. Also had evacuated all the debris removed from the gutters in the council area and have embarked on daily collection of refuse generated by residents and traders across the LGA.

Equally, he has embarked on the construction of Flower Gardens for the beautification of the Local Government Area and the introduction of Daily Road sweepers and traffic signs for easy traffic identification, amongst others. In the conferment ceremony proper, a parishioner, HRH Igwe Linus Onu, Egbu 1 of Umudim Ngodo Isuochi, Umunnneochi LGA, Abia State, installed “Dikediebube Onitsha South” title on Hon Emeka Orji.

In appreciation, The Chairman said the title given to him is a boost, which will propel him to continue doing more good works for Onitsha South LGA. He noted that he has achieved some important things like eliminating free-range piggery and animal husbandry, as he had put a halt to the abnormality of pigs roaming around the streets and the environments without restrictions.

He acknowledged that this menace has existed since the late 40s, in Onitsha South LGA. But today, the story has changed for the better. He also said that, through his interventions, many roads are being constructed in Onitsha South LGA by our amiable Gov Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

He thanked the Parish Priest and St Dominic Catholic Church for honouring him with the title of “Dikediebube Onitsha South”.

He eulogized and appreciated Gov Soludo for his support and the massive infrastructural developments in Onitsha South LGA, with special emphasis on the Construction of 10 Key Strategic Roads in the Local Government Area and the General Hospital under construction in Onitsha South Local Government Area.

He also pointed out that Gov Charles Chukwuma Soludo has so much love for Onitsha South LGA and that’s why he’s doing all these for the local government and that, he’s ever willing to do more for the local government, based on our collective support and encouragement.

Highlights of the occasion include the installation of Hon Fred Ezenwa, member representing Onitsha South 1 in Anambra State House of Assembly Awka, as “Ugochimereze” Onitsha South 1 Constituency.

Dignitaries present include, Fegge Landlords Association led by Chief Okwudili Obinwanne, (Chairman), Dr Noel Udeoji Esq. (Secretary), Barr Stanley Okafor, Legal Adviser, Onitsha South LGA, Chief Afam Udeogalanya, Deputy Chairman of APGA in Onitsha South LGA, Hon Ndubuisi Okereke, amongst others.
