The Enugu State Government has extended financial assistance and distributed relief materials to individuals affected by flooding, fires, and building collapses within the state.
The initiative, which took place at the Government House in Enugu, involved Governor Peter Mbah being represented by Mrs. Chinasa Mbah, the head of the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
She encouraged the recipients to use the provided assistance wisely, emphasizing that it is intended to alleviate their hardships, not compensate for their losses.
She also stressed the importance of environmental consciousness, advising against obstruction of waterways, discarding refuse in drainage systems, or burning bushes to maintain a safe environment.
Furthermore, Igwe Hyacinth A. Edeani, the traditional ruler of Ohani, Amechi-Idodo, expressed appreciation for Governor Mbah’s concern for the victims and those in need of assistance.
He highlighted the positive impact of such support and anticipated further initiatives from the governor.
The event’s highlight was the presentation of N1,000,000 cash relief to a woman who tragically lost her three children in a building collapse at Mgbemene Street in Enugu.
Additionally, other affected individuals from the same incident received N500,000 each to aid their relocation to improved accommodations.
Relief materials were also distributed to victims of the fire outbreak at Opi Nsukka market, Fredrick Street in Iva-Valley, and flood-affected areas in Amechi-Idodo and Onitsha Road, Enugu.
