Manchester United has completed the signing of Nigerian international, Odion Ighalo, the player is expected to arrive in England from China over the weekend.

Ighalo, 30, has joined the club on loan till the end of the season from Shanghai Shenhua in a deadline day deal reportedly worth £ 4m

United has been in search of a striker to replace the injured Marcus Rashford who is set to be out for 6 weeks with a double stress fracture in his back following the 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup third-round replay.

Ighalo who was also linked to Tottenham and Inter Milan in the January transfer window opted for a return to England with Ole Gunnar Solskaer’s side clear favourites for the striker’s signature.

United’s interest in Edinson Cavani, Joshua King and Salomon Rondon did not materialize, they eventually turned their attention to the former Watford man who scored 15 goals in the 2015/ 16 season for the club.

He scored seven goals to become the top scorer in African Cup of Nations qualifying for Nigeria and scoring another five at the tournament last summer.

He returns to England having spent 3 years in China and scoring 46 goals in 72 games.

United manager, Solskaer, has heaped praises on the new signing: “Odion is an experienced player. He will come in and give us an option of a different type of centre-forward for the short spell he’s staying with us. “A great lad and very professional, he will make the most of his time here.”
