Bearing Arms in self-defense is a patriotic call, Ortom insists

Samuel Ortom the governor of Benue State has reaffirmed on Friday in Abuja that his call for Good Nigerians to bear arms to defend themselves against Armed robbers, bandits, Herdsmen Boko Haram others is a patriot call.

Ortom further pleaded with the government to grant the request, noting that the right to self-defense is a universal right of every human being.

According to him, there is nothing strange about my call, because the safety of the lives of law-abiding citizens has come under serious threat by criminals in our country, he further urged for the review of the existing laws to allow the current situation to be managed.

In his words he said ;

“If bandits, terrorists, and criminals know that where they’re going to attack, destroy properties or steal, those in the area has sophisticated weapons as they have, they will caution themselves”.

“What we are saying is that kidnappers, armed robbers and terrorists, none of them carry Dane guns, double-barrelled or pump-action, they carry sophisticated weapons like AK 47, we can’t just fold our arms.

“As for me, the call is a patriotic call. What I’m calling for is for a review of our laws based on the sophistication of crime. In the ’60 s and ’70 s, we never had such criminals bearing AK 47 assault rifles and killing people anyhow like we have today in the country. I will write to Mr. president so that it will pass through the process of legislation.” He concluded.
