Abandoned Popular Town In Africa

Kolmanskop is a famous ghost town in Africa at the Namib Desert in southern Namibia.

The long-forsaken mining settlement of Kolmanskop produced more than 10%of the world’s diamonds in its heyday and was among the richest communities in the world, boasting everything that a huge town entails.

Back then, the town had the highest level of wealth per capita in the world.

More so, over the first six years of mining, a whopping five million carats worth of diamonds were extracted. That wealth translated into some seriously luxurious living.

However an exodus of residents fled the town years later and it had been completely vacated and left to the punishing desert elements.

Sand slowly began to seep into the settlement’s empty buildings.

Today the ghost town’s crumbling ruins bear little resemblance to its former glory.

The magnificent houses have been nearly demolished by the wind and knee-deep sand.
