Obinwannem News UK agrees to return €4.2 million Ibori's 'loot'

United Kingdom signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to return the sum of 4.2million euro, “stolen” assets by former governor of Delta State.

This information was confirmed Tuesday by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catarina Laing, at the conference hall of the ministry of Justice in Abuja.

According to Laing, the money was recovered from friends, and family members of the former Delta state governor.

She affirmed that the relationship between Nigeria and United Kingdom has been hampered as a result money siphoning.

She warned Nigerians that UK will no longer be an avenue for looters to siphon proceeds of crime.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami said “recovering the stolen funds remained part of the efforts of the current administration to fight corruption”.

Malami noted the recovered loot would be used to fund Lagos Ibadan road, Abuja Kano road and second Niger bridge.

The former governor of Delta state, James Ibori, ruled as a governor between 1997 and 2007. He was jailed in the UK for fraud in 2012, and has served his terms. He has returned back to Nigeria.
