I watched in tears as the Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade delivered a noteworthy speech at the unveiling of the 100% free-for-life housing estate for the good people of Ifiang Ayong Bakassi community in the state and I keep wondering why our leaders are not taking up similar initiatives to better the lives of our people with the vast resources at their disposal.

In a first of its kind in Nigeria and indeed Africa, the housing provisions distributed to low-income families comes fully furnished with sustainable water and electricity for all.

The project situated in the underdeveloped area ensures safety of the ecosystem and provides a harmless environment for the inhabitants who were also blessed with start-up money for new businesses, fishing, and other farming materials.

While his many counterparts remain engrossed in the business of lopsided yet frivolous developments for their personal gains and enrichment of their elite friends; inflating contracts, seizing lands and properties and converting state-owned projects to personal properties, embezzling state funds and acquiring private properties in Dubai and the Americas, Governor Ayade continues to make good strides in building an everlasting legacy for himself and the good people of Cross River State.

A welcome development that has surely put big smiles on the faces of our beloved mother and fathers, brothers and sisters in the state and across the entire country.
