The consistent attack on Police facilities and its operatives continues to cause great panic in the Eastern heartland, Imo State, as yet another attack was launched on Mbeiri Divisional Police Headquarters located in Mbaitoli local government, Thursday morning, by unknown gunmen.

Obinwannem News gathered that the gunmen operated from 1:00 (local time) – 24 hours after Ehime Mbano Police Station was razed.

An indigene of Mbeiri revealed that “the gunmen invaded the station, and released suspects in police custody.

“The gunmen also carted away with phones belonging to suspects and that of the police operatives at the division.”

It was also gathered that an officer who tried to repel the hoodlums, was kidnapped; while two other officers sustained serious gunshots injuries.

A community leader, Nokey Ebikam, said the Police divisional headquarters was not burnt but the gunmen freed the suspect after vandalizing the facility.

Police spokesperson, Orlando Ikeokwu confirmed the attack, stating that one police officer was missing, while two others were injured, following the resistance put up by policemen on duty.

Ikeokwu also said that some detained suspects in the police facility were freed by the attackers.

He, however, assured that the police authorities in the State has began investigation immediately.

Notwithstanding,it has been recorded that six divisional police headquarters had been attacked between February and April.
