Chelsea news: Graham Potter could potentially look to take some Brighton players with him this season.
Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday morning following the Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb the previous evening. Potter quickly emerged as the leading candidate and he has now travelled to London for talks after Brighton granted permission.
Cundy is a big fan of Potter and says his managerial credentials have been shown in how he has transformed the careers of three players in particular. Leandro Trossard, Pascal Gross and Alexis Mac Allister have all been pivotal in Brighton winning four of their opening six matches this season.
Cundy is surprised a big club such as Manchester United haven’t attempted to sign one of Trossard or Gross. That leaves the door open for Chelsea to potentially reunite Potter with one, or more, of his former players in the future.
“For me, I would go straight for Potter,” Cundy said on talkSPORT. “I’ve seen what he’s done, I’ve seen with Trossard and Gross – I’m amazed those two players are still there. “I thought United would go in for at least one of those. He gets good players and turns them into brilliant footballers.
“Look at what he’s done for [Marc] Cucurella. Cucurella hasn’t been the same player since he came to Chelsea! “What he has done for some of these players, and the style of football and the way they play. You look at some of these players now.

“You think Mac Allister, the way that he’s turned into this brilliant [player]. He gets the best out of the squad that he’s got and I’ll tell you what, he’s got a hell of a squad at Chelsea. Make no mistake.
“I can’t wait to see when he gets his hand on this squad, what we look like. If we’re anything like Brighton, then we are in for a treat.”
Cundy says Potter showed at former club Ostersunds that he has what it takes to compete on the European stage. He added: “He went to Ostersunds and there was a game against Arsenal in the Europa League and they beat them 2-1.
“So he does have some European experience and he can go onto the European stage and take on some of the big heads. Then he went to Swansea and Brighton saw exactly what they wanted and they took him and he’s elevated.”
