It was simply known as Anambra State. In 1991, the state was partitioned in two. One remained the old Anambra state, with its capital in Awka.
The division resulted in the formation of a new state. That state later became Enugu State. Ibrahim Babangida, the military head of state, carried out this partition on August 27, 1991.
In 1976, Imo and Abia were one state in Eastern Nigeria. In 1991, the state was separated into three parts, one of which became Abia and the other became Ebonyi.
With being said, I believe one of the most foolish things you can do as an Igbo is to separate among your people simply because Onye Ugwu divided our territory into sections for political advantage.
Isn’t it foolish for Ebonyi state residents to refuse marriage with Imo? And vice versa. Or does Enugu refuse to marry Anambra due to political differences?
