The Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu has said that youths between 20 and 40 years old are responsible for the constant spread of Coronavirus across the country.
Speaking during a PTF COVID-19 briefing on Thursday in Abuja, Dr. Chikwe warned that youths in the aforementioned age bracket should take proper measures, stressing that older people from 50 years and above are the ones mostly dying from the disease.
Obinwannem news reports have it that a total of 27,110 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus have been recorded in Nigeria since the outbreak.
Dr. Chikwe also urged Nigerians to remember to observe safety measures despite the relaxation of restrictions and opening of airports.
In his words: โAs more people are infected across the world, the numbers are increasing.
โIt is obvious that transmission among younger people really, not children, but people aged between 20 and 40 as far as we know are really driving the spread of this virus, but those that are bearing the brunt of it are people aged 50 and above.
โThree out of five people who died from COVID-19 are 50 and above so we have to work harder, all of us collectively to protect the elderly in our midst.
โEveryone needs to show the elderly citizens love and affection by not exposing them to the virus,โ he added.
