Obinwannem News Gov Obiano declares curfew amid clashes in Anambra, 19 persons feared dead

The government of Anambra State has imposed a curfew on five communities in the State, following the killings of about nineteen (19) persons on Monday.

The communities involved are Igbariam, Aguleri, Umueri, Nteje, Awkuzu, and Umugam in Anambra North Senatorial District.

This was contained in a statement issued by Prof Solo Chukwlobelu, who specified that the curfew would begin immediately, from 7pm to 6am, till further notice

The statement advised residents living in the affected communities to adhere to the curfew order.

It added, “Security personnel are on strict order to enforce the curfew.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of Miyetti Allah in the South East, Alhaji Gidado Sidikki, told journalists that apart from 19 of their members (were killed), 23 cows belonging to them were also butchered.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the State Police Relations Officer, Ikenna Tochukwu, said nine persons were killed in the incident.

He, however, affirmed the Commissioner of Police in the State, Monday Kuryas, had deployed policemen in the communities.
