Arrested IPOB members finally regain freedom in Abia

A High court in Abia State has on Monday, released members of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, who were illegally detained in the State capital, Umuahia since February 14, 2020.

According to the group lead counsel, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Umeh Sunday and Kamalu Ifeanyi were arrested during the burial of Eze and Lolo Okwu Kanu, parents of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and have been held ever since in the Afara prison.

Barrister Ejiofor via his Twitter handle on Tuesday, congratulated and assured them adequate compensation from the authorities for the inhuman treatments they had to endure while in police custody.

He said: “After a protracted ferocious legal battle, which ultimately ended in our favor, the innocent members of IPOB who were arrested and detained, after attending the burial of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s parents, on the 14th day of February 2020, regained their freedom yesterday by the order of Abia State High Court. Victory shall continue to be our portion.

“Congratulations to the duo, Umeh Sunday and Kamalu Ifeanyi. Be assured that we will explore all available legal remedy to ensure that you are adequately compensated by the authorities that put you through this inhuman and degrading treatment” . He added.
