Hon. Obi Aguocha, the representative for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South federal constituency, has emphasized his unwavering stance on demanding the release of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

He made the disclosure during the grand finale of the 2023 Press Week of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists at Abia State.

Aguocha, asserting that Kanu is his direct constituent, insisted on his duty to seek his release despite clashes with service chiefs.

He attributed the escalating insecurity in the South East to Kanu’s prolonged detention and urged the federal government to heed calls for his release, emphasizing that it would contribute to restoring peace.

Aguocha encouraged journalists to fearlessly speak truth to power, considering the press as a vital pillar of democracy.

Philanthropist Chief Kelvin Jombo Onumah echoed this sentiment, commending journalists for their sacrifices and urging the government to appreciate their contributions.

Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, Comrade Obinna Ibe, highlighted challenges faced by journalists, including lack of payment and essential resources.

Governor Alex Otti, represented by the Commissioner for Information, expressed gratitude to Abia journalists for their support in projecting the government’s activities.
