A report reaching us revealed how a 27-year-old man, Darlington Ugboaja, who was found with crystal meth popularly known as ‘Mpkurummiri’ was beaten to death by some unidentified youths.
The sad event which happened at Anara market in Isiala Mbano local government area of the state led to tension in the area as traders were seen closing their shops for fear of reprisal by the victim’s kinsmen. It should be noted that the abuse of crystal meth has been on the rise in the southeast causing concern among residents, who have resorted to flogging those caught with this hard drug.
Though the way youths in the east are vehemently fighting against the abuse of this hard drug is commendable, however, their modus operandi is barbaric, as they are taking it too far. Imagine the pains the victim’s loved ones will be facing due to the recklessness of these youths, who claim to be making their community drug-free. The youths shouldn’t have taken the laws into their hands by killing the young man.
Instead of beating a person in possession of crystal meth, youths should be sensitized to the dangers of drug abuse. Also, parents should instill discipline in their wards and warn them against keeping bad company.
Youths must be called to order concerning the way they treat ‘Mpkurummiru’ abusers before it gets out of hand.
