• We are freedom fighters not comparable to terrorists
Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has issued a stern warning to the popular Islamic cleric Sheik Ahmed Gumi, for comparing IPOB with Boko Haram.
This was followed by the remarks Gumi reportedly made in an interview on Saturday with BBC, saying Oduduwa and Biafra agitators are same as Boko Haram terrorists; adding that they should be treated as insurgents.
More so, the Islamic cleric faulted the activities of the Biafra and Oduduwa agitators; he said the duo are only interested in their own idealogies, to cause chaos in the country. He also described them as “miscreants”.
Reacting, IPOB Spokesperson Emma Powerful on Monday, retorted to Gumi’s “infuriating” remarks, saying it was an insult comparing freedom fighters with insurgents.
The freedom movement also accused the cleric of supporting banditary and terrorism.
The statement partly reads,”Gumi in the said media report, allegedly compared agitators of Biafra and oduduwa republic with his Fulani bandits rampaging the north and ravaging the entire south.
“Such a statement if true has simply unmasked and exposed the real identity of this man masquerading as an Islamic cleric, when in actual fact he is one of the hardened supporters of Fulani herdsmen.
Powerful condemned Gumi for pretending about the terrorist escapades, pointing that his utterance was a clear sign that those behind the killings across the country, were not invisible.
“He is fully aware of hideouts of the bandits,” Powerful said. “Not only did Sheik Gumi wine and dine with the bandits, he has also suddenly become their advocate. He has gone to the extent of comparing blood suckers with self determination. What a national embarrassment.
“In his warped mind, Sheik Gumi can no longer differentiate between self determination which is a constitutional guaranteed rights and terrorism which is a crime.
“This hypocrisy has confirmed our earlier position that terrorism and banditary in Nigeria are common agenda of the caliphate,” IPOB said
