Assembly of pan-Yoruba groups, worldwide has taken a new swing in their agitation for self-determination as it fixes June 12 a day of referendum.

This was sequel to the resolution in a meeting held in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital; with the theme, “The paramountcy of Yoruba Unity in Tackling the Insecurity Menace in Yoruba Land “. According to a communique read by Otunba Deji, after the meeting, it was resolved that Yoruba self determination is ‘non-negotiable ‘.

The resolution charged all the Yoruba to return home and defend the land on the current insecurity threats ravaging Yoruba land.

The Assembly, however tasked every Yoruba representing various constituency in the Senate and House of Representatives to pass a motion on insecurity in Yoruba land within the next 90days, precisely by June 25. Also the resolution reached, called on Yoruba groups to organize relief materials for Fulani ravaged victims.

All Yoruba groups are also charged to make unity of purpose as their guiding principle. Resultantly, a Yoruba Central Coordinating Council was proposed.

Prof Banji Akintoye, represented by Dr Tunde Hamzat stressed that the call for Yoruba self-determination should not be misconstrued as secession. Akintoye said, the Yoruba Nation will be achieved in a peacefully manner through the building of consensus and mobilization of the people.

Also speaking, Ambassador Yemi Farounbi stressed that Yoruba should be ready to defend themselves against the ceaseless threat of their lives. He charged all Yoruba individuals and groups to bring out their intellect, asset, and knowledge for the cause of the Yoruba nation.

Legal practitioner, Femi Falana who made a phone call into the event, said there is need for restructuring of Yorubaland, and called on the Yoruba people to take charge of their affairs and ensure development of Yoruba Nation.

To curb herders/farmers clashes, he urged the Yoruba Nation to embrace ranching as it was in the time of Obafemi Awolowo.
