Obinwannem News Wike decries alleged killings of security personnels in Rivers State

Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has despised the alleged killings of security personnels, by hoodlums, along Omagwa/Isiokpo/Elele Owerri Portharcourt road.

He was said to have broken down in tears as he condemned the “unjust and callous” killings of security operatives by unknown thugs.

On Sunday, gunmen reportedly killed eight police officers at security checkpoint along Owerri Portharcourt road in the State’s Ikwerre local government area.

During the attacks, security weapons were carted away, and operational vehicles set ablaze.

The governor in a statement released by his special assistant, Kelvin Ebiri, condemned the killings, while commensurating with the family of the victims, assuring that the culprits would be brought to justice.

Wike said, “The unjustified and callous assault on security personnel saddens the government of Rivers state. We express our condolence to the families of those killed in the attack.

“We condemn the barbaric act, share the security agencies’ sorrows and express our heartfelt condolence.”

The governor charged the security agencies to be vigilant; adding that the government of Rivers “are in solidarity with security agencies at this difficult times of this unwanted and mindless violence”.

Wike, however, ordered the arrest of the attackers, noting that they would be brought to justice.
