Amidst claim of victory by Joe Biden over the just concluded U.S Presidential election, the China government has said that the outcome of the vote was still to be determined, therefore, has refused to congratulate the Democrat candidate.
During a press briefing, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin noted that its understanding is that the outcome of the election will be determined in accordance with US laws and procedures.
After declining to acknowledge Biden’s victory despite repeated questions from reporters, Wang said: “We hope the new US government can meet China halfway.”
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is yet to concede and has launched several legal challenges.
However, many world leaders have congratulated Biden and running mate Kamala Harris after the Democrats claimed winners over the weekend.
Giving that some world leaders have congratulated Biden, China, other major countries including Russia and Mexico have not congratulated Joe Biden.
