Why Chelsea’s Cobham Should Be Considered The Best Academy Facility Across Europe’s Biggest Leagues

Obinwannem News Why Chelsea's Cobham Should Be Considered The Best Academy Facility Across Europe's Biggest Leagues

Over the years, we have seen clubs like Barcelona and Manchester United produce top stars from their famed academies.

Man United’s “Class of 92” is still arguably the best crop of players to emerge from the club’s academy, with the likes of Beckham, Giggs, Scholes and the Neville brothers going on to achieve unparalleled success in their respective careers.

Barcelona’s La Masia also was once the home of some legendary figures like Xavi Hernandez, Iniesta, Busquets, and one of the greatest players ever seen in football, Lionel Andrés Messi.

Ajax have also done well in developing some big names in recent memory like De Ligt, Frenkie De Jong and Ziyech, all of whom are currently doing well in their respective clubs.

But presently, it seems the players from Chelsea’s academy are showing the world a glimpse of what the club is cooking at Cobham. Just last summer, Chelsea decided to balance their books by selling youngsters like Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Tino Livramento not because they were not good enough, but because these players are too good to sit on the bench waiting for the right opportunity.

Tomori is doing well at AC Milan, Abraham has already adapted to life in Italy with ease and Livramento scored his first ever goal for Southampton last weekend.

Let’s not forget Armando Broja, an academy graduate from Chelsea’s Cobham who’s on loan at Southampton this season also scored for the Saints in their 2-2 draw against Burnley last Saturday.

Then we have Mason Mount who notched 3 goals in one match against Norwich as well. Still just 22, Mount has established himself as a key member of Thomas Tuchel’s high-flying team.

The England international had 53 touches on the ball in the 7-nil win against Norwich, had 4 shots on target, won possession 3 times, created 3 chances and capped it off with 3 well-taken goals and one assist.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James both scored as well while Ruben Loftus-Cheek grabbed an assist to make it 9 goal contributions from 6 players who are all products of Chelsea’s Cobham academy facility.

In fact, the 7 goals scored by Mount, Livramento, James, Odoi, and Broja collectively is now the most goals scored by players from the same academy in one match-week in the history of the Premier League.

Are there any academy currently better than Chelsea’s in giving the world of football future stars
