Obinwannem News Umu Obii Family Reunion: Hon. Pete Ibida Charges Members to sustain Peace

Yuletide celebrations/holidays offer communities (especially in the Eastern part of the country) an opportunity to connect with kits and kin; call for community meeting and chart the way forward for the benefit of their people.

Also, family members use the occasion to meet loved ones who are residing in various cities or towns.

One of such reunions was witnessed yesterday, 31st December 2020 at Egbengwu village, Nimo, Njikoka Council Area where Umu Obii held their end of the year get-together.

In his remarks at the occasion, a scion of the Ibida family, a direct descendant of Obii and member representing Njikoka II in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr. Sir Pete Ibida, IDE Nimo observed that such reunion has never been held for more than twenty-five years in the family and therefore commended the leadership of Umu Obii youths for the great initiative.

Hon. Ibida recalled spending his childhood at the Obi pointing out that their great grandfather, OBII was a great man. He noted that the big family is one of the most successful families in Umuowelle clan.

In conclusion, he urged the family members especially the youths to continue to show love and be united.

Speaking, Mr. Izuchukwu Ibida, the Chairman of Umu Obii youths expressed happiness over the successful hosting of the 2020 reunion.

He mentioned families that make up umu obii to include; Ibida, obinyeluaku, oyiliagu, abazu and okwuaya and appreciated distant cousins, first cousins, friends and well wishers that found time to grace the occasion with their presence.

However, Mr. Izuchukwu regretted that most of their family members who are living abroad could not attend because of the coronavirus pandemic and prayed God to continue guiding and protecting umu ibii anywhere they are.

On his part, a nephew of Umu Obii family (Ibida in particular), Mr. Onuorah Francis Ofordile commended the youths on the wonderful idea of bringing brothers and sisters together to merry and reunite with one another.

“As nwadiana, I’m very proud of this my maternal home. The family is one of the biggest in Nimo community and Umuowelle in general and I urge them to continue in this wise.”, Chief Onuorah said.
