Obinwannem News Uganda's Bobi Wine declares self winner amid inconclusive election results

MP Robert Kyagulanyi, known by his stage name Bobi wine, claimed victory in Ugandan presidential election held Thursday.

Wine, the main opposition of the incumbent president Yoweri Museveni , early Friday said the election was noted with “widespread fraud and violence”.

The internet remained down for a third day as vote counting continued. It was announced on Tuesday that President Museveni approved the suspension of social media platforms – Instagram,Twitter, and WhatsApp – due to alleged spread of misinformation.

Meanwhile, the government said voting was successful, dismissing the allegations of the opposition leader; calling him (Wine) to present evidence to his claims.

The 38-year-old former reggae star, emerged as the main challenger to a 76-year-old Yoweri, who is seeking a sixth term and has been rulling Uganda since 1986.

Early hours of Friday, Yoweri was leading with 63 percent ballots while Bobi wine had 28 percent. Bobi wine rejected the result, told reporters in Kampala, “we secured a comfortable victory”. Although the final result are expected to be out on Saturday.

Bobi Wine has been arrested several times during his campaign, and organised, peaceful protests. In one of Wine’s numerous campaigns , security forces loyal to president Museveni shot at least 54 persons as many were injured.
